Thursday Game EP 2 - The Board Game Talk Show
Share
This month, for episode 2 of Jeu-Dit, we once again had a great line-up of guests!
Our guest author was Thomas Dagenais-Lespérance, successful author of Decrypto (2018), Mimose et Sam (2024), Miller Zoo (2022), Wayfinder, Islet (2019), Anomaly (2019), World Traveler (2024), as well as upcoming games: MAD (Locomuse), Shape It (Randolph), Melody (Next Move) and The Dream (Studio H).
Our media guests were Caro & Roch from L'As des Jeux! They own two stores in the Outaouais region as well as a board game pub, Le Parlé Bistro Ludique. Located right next to their store, it's the perfect place to try out a game while enjoying a good meal and local beers (5e Baron, À la Dérive, Brasseur RJ, etc.).
They also have several micro points of sale in local businesses, such as delicatessens and confectioneries, in areas not served by other specialized stores. Their goal is to promote successful local trade, without encroaching on other game stores.
In this episode, the guests tell us about their journey. Thomas highlights the steps he took to get his first game published, as well as his working method for creating new projects. A very interesting conversation about the creative approach to board games, from its beginnings when it was still little-known to today, after the success of his games.
Thomas also answers Leany's pointed questions — a much-appreciated highlight for viewers, which will certainly return in episode 3 with new guests.
Caro & Roch, for their part, tell us about their entrepreneurial journey: from the beginnings when L'As only sold used games to today, where they have become an essential and well-established store. They honestly discuss the challenges of starting a business as a couple, the naivety of the early days (where even contacting a supplier was a novelty) and the many projects they undertake. Some work, others don't — and for them, that's normal.
Their passion also led them to create a major gaming event: the L'As des Jeux Mega Garage Sale (over 6000 people expected in 2026). The program includes: tons of discounted games over 4 days (May 7 to 10, 2026), game tables and much more. There will be a pro area to meet major distributors, an authors' zone with independent publishers (Rock Stone & Dice, Ruse Games, Let’s Forget the Rules, G1iDGames and Nostalgi), as well as a proto zone presented by G1iDGames (yes, that's us!).
They also planned a hotel takeover at Hôtel V, promising evenings and nights of games among enthusiasts. Honestly, it sounds incredible!
They also got Leany's pointed questions... a softer version 😉
We end with a new game imagined by Hugo: based on comments and clues from BoardGameGeek (BGG), the guests must guess which game it is. Who will find the most?
