Throwback Thursday EP 4 with Maxime Tardif and Raphaël Lacaille

In July, we had the pleasure of hosting two very well-known figures in the board game world!

Maxime Tardif is the author of the global success Earth (a good play on words!), as well as BrilliAnts, Rayman, and Earth Express.

Raphaël Lacaille is an actor and one of the founders of the popular board game channel Es-tu Games?

The chemistry during the episode was strong, as both guests are wonderful people, and they were eager to share their experience, which resulted in a lot of advice on how to get a board game published, how to get started in self-publishing, or as a board game media creator.

Amidst discussions filled with life anecdotes, jokes, and great tips, we got to know them better, as well as the journey that led them to where they are today.

Maxime Tardif talks about Kickstarter, self-publishing, and the success of Earth

Having worked in almost all aspects of the game world, Max is clearly a valuable source of advice. He shared his experience in game design, but also as a publisher, as he initially founded Sphere Games with two other friends. They launched several campaigns on Kickstarter, and during the show, he recounted the method for a successful crowdfunding campaign and the pitfalls to avoid.

He obviously talked about his meeting with Inside-Up and how he created Earth, what made it a success, and the industry's help.

Meetings are at the heart of the episode, as Maxime, like Raphaël, reiterated that it is thanks to them and one's network that projects can materialize, and that above all, one must take the plunge, sometimes headfirst. Mistakes are part of the journey, but it is through contacts and hard work that everything comes to fruition.

Raphaël Lacaille, an actor and entrepreneur

Drawing on his background as an actor, Raphaël also recounts how it allowed him to develop the attitude and aura that define him today.

As one of the founders of Es-tu Games?, a large-scale project that requires a certain business acumen, Raph defines himself as a new kind of businessman. He doesn't want to crush others; on the contrary, he seeks to surround himself with people he appreciates, who will become very good friends, in order to realize his vision for the channel.

Determination, hard work, and confidence in his project have allowed him, over time, to establish Es-tu Games? as one of the most influential French-speaking channels in the board game world in Quebec and internationally.

Thanks to his cheerful attitude, ambition, jokes, and even his costumes at major events like Cannes, he manages to make an impression and earn respect for his artistic vision.

His advice on launching a board game media channel will be invaluable to anyone looking to start or test this type of project.
